Route 40

National Route 40 is the "backbone" of the Argentine Republic. It is a winding road that unites plateaus, towns, plains, valleys, and mountains.

Route 40 is the "backbone" of the Argentine Republic, it goes from the Puna up to the southern end of the American continent.
It is a mythical road due to many reasons. Due to the deserted places it crosses.
Due to the Andes Mountains guarding its back. Due to the condors that fly over it. And due to all the things that sometimes have no explanation. It has to be lived intently and in person.
What happens is that the 40 is much more than just a route, it is also everything it unites during its winding path through plateaus, towns, plains, valleys, and mountains. You will be able to enjoy everything the Route 40 has to offer only during the months of November to April.
It is a 2-day trip of about 12-14 hours each day.
The first day from El Calafate to El Chaltén and the second one from Perito Moreno to Los Antiguos.
Departure is every odd day from the bus terminal in El Calafate or the Rancho Grande Hostel in El Chaltén, arriving at Perito Moreno at about 9 pm.
Departure for the second day, Perito Moreno-Bariloche, is every even day from the Belgrano Hotel in Perito Moreno and arrives to Bariloche at night. You can also end the trip in Esquel o El Bolsón.
