EXCURSIONS

El Calafate - Perito Moreno Glacier

Minitrekking

Short walk on the glacier where you can discover a great variety of ice formations, such as cravasses, seracs, gullies, and small lagoons.

The excursion begins in the embarking pier located in “Bajo de las Sombras” port, about 6 km before the glacier Balconies, where you embark for a 20-minute navigation across the Rico arm, enjoying breathtaking views of the Perito Moreno glacier’s southern wall.

After disembarking, you reach a shelter where specialized mountain guides organize groups of less than 20 people each. Then, you walk along the lake's shore for approximately 20 minutes until reaching the glacier. Once on the ice the guides put each participant a pair of crampons on, and explain them how to walk on ice. The two-hour circuit on the glacier introduces you to the fascinating landscape of the glaciers where you will see a wide range of ice formations, like cravasses, seracs, gullies, small lagoons, etc.

Trekking activity is moderate. The ice surface where you walk on is irregular, but firm and safe. You will learn about flora, fauna and general glaciology of the region, as well as the particular phenomenon that happens in the Perito Moreno Glacier and eventually produces its rupture. After the walk, a stroll through the lush Magellanic forest brings you back to the shelter.

There are discounts for minors: children between 10 and 15 years old will get a 20% discount on the minitrekking excursion (transportation excluded).
